The BEC, Business English Certificate Cambridge exam, has three levels: “Preliminary”, “Vantage” and “Higher”, from easy to hard.
Business English Preliminary
The Business English BEC Preliminary corresponds to a B1 level, at the level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
This level shows that you have a good basic knowledge of business English and that you can use it on a daily basis within the company.
Goal
Be able to follow telephone conversations, brief discussions at meetings, write and read short messages.
Examination
– Written comprehension and production: 1h30
– listening comprehension: about 40 minutes
– oral production: 12 minutes per pair
Business English Vantage
It corresponds to the level of intermediate English, B2, at the level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Goal
This exam tests your ability to write texts, professional emails, read articles in newspapers, magazines, and listen, understand, participate in more elaborate discussions at meetings.
Examination
– written comprehension: 1h
– written production: 45 minutes
– listening comprehension: about 40 minutes
– oral production: about 14 minutes per pair
Business English Higher
This exam shows the employer that you have reached a very advanced level of professional English. It belongs to C1 at the level of the Common European Framework of Reference.
Goal
You will be able to express yourself very easily with colleagues and clients.
You actively participate in meetings and presentations.
You understand a wide range of demanding texts and are able to understand the implicit meaning of texts.

– listening comprehension: about 40 minutes
– oral production: about 16 minutes per pair
